The rise of social media in our digital platform has served as a levelling field, of sorts, for artists and creatives from all backgrounds and regions to showcase their work. Instagram has allowed people to connect with like-minded others across borders and create a community like never before. There’s a space for everyone and everything on the platform. However, what has long been contested has been their community guidelines when it comes to sharing ‘explicit content’, which has in the past resulted in the taking down of seemingly harmless art and content, laid bare the double standards when it comes to male and female ‘nudity’, hindering free expression for a lot of people while letting a lot of other questionable content remain.
