While nothing truly compares to the experience of chilling at a leisurely shack by the beach in Goa, sipping on a cocktail, and just taking in the breathtaking beauty, there’s still something quite exciting about eating on-the-go, without the luxuries of being served on a cloth-covered table with a cute scented candle in the middle. Food trucks may be the staple of New York, but in Goa they have come to resemble a unique dining experience. These meals on the wheels often serve some of the best food available at extreme pocket-friendly rates. Whether it’s a plate of good old sorpotel or a simple fried chicken preparation, the food is always bursting with flavours. One of the lesser-known experiences that are actually abundantly available across the region, a Goan food truck is where you can dive into authentic Goan food, along with other street food that you wouldn’t always find at a fancy restaurant. So read on for some Goa’s best food trucks for your annual trip to the sunshine state!
Where: MDR 10, Assagao, Goa 403509
Run by the Noronha brothers, Charles, Lazarus and Joseph, this food truck dishes up a variety of homecooked Goan-Catholic snacks for its loyalists - many of whom have been religiously visiting this place since 2009. One of the few really good food trucks that are open well into the night, Noronha’s is perfect for a quality meal at extremely reasonable rates. In fact, they are known for running out of many of their popular dishes, like their beef preparations and the scrumptious chicken cafreal, if you arrive too late.
Cost: INR 200 for two people.
Timings: Opens at 6.30 pm.
II. The Goan Food Truck
A 21st century off-the-grid food truck, this one’s unavailable on most of our go-to apps like Zomato so you’re unlikely to find it on your own unless a local recommends it to you. A treasured secret, The Goan Food Truck serves a wide range of delicious delicacies. From pork cutlet bread and chicken xacuti to sorpotel and beef steak, the food is here is bound to leave you craving for another visit and is good enough to easily become a regular dinner spot. If you’re visiting on a weekend, make sure to ask for their beef or pork cutlet bread as it’s a weekend special and so worth it.
III. Dices Zupper Burger
Where: Near the Adarsh Circle, Opp. to Adarsh Complex, Caranzalem, Goa
Run by a warm and kind woman who is lovingly referred to as ‘Cafreal Aunty’ by the kids living in the area, Dices Zupper Burget is well-suited for all your budgetary constrains. Her nickname of course is inspired from the very juicy Cafreal Pav that she serves at her food truck for just INR 70. Many also flock to this one for the crispy fried Chicken wings and the homecooked sorpotel that is cooked with not just the best spices but a whole lot of love as well!
IV. Pinto’s Food Truck
Where: Ground floor, Opp Axis Bank, Ponda Main Road, Ponda, Goa
Locals swear by the Chicken Shawarma here and there’s only one way to find out why. Pinto’s Food Truck is famous for its really perfectly cooked Goan delicacies, although that’s not all they specialise in. If you’re craving some really spicy and abundantly flavoured Chinese street food, then Pinto’s is your place. They also have multiple branches across Goa.
V. Oppa’s Food Court
Where: Dmello Vaddo, Anjuna, Goa
A food truck where you get the best of both food and company, Oppa’s Food Court carries forward the legacy of Oppa’s restaurant. Located Eatopia, Oppa’s Food Court serves delicious food starting at extremely economic rates. Expect a variety of pois, sandwiches, and baguettes, each prepared personally by the owner Bryan who warm, kind, and always ready to recommend the best of whatever his food truck is dishing out for the day.
VI. Maruti’s food truck
Where: Anjuna Mapusa road, Dmello Vaddo, Anjuna, Goa.
Pocket-friendly food that is simply a burst of all kinds of delectable flavours, Maruti’s food truck is located at Anjuna Mapusa road. There’s really no competing with the delicious Omlette you get here, cooked just the right way with all the right spices and garnishing. Locals highly recommend this food truck and we do too. Also try their lip-smacking Chicken dishes.
Where: Taleigao Bypass Road, Panaji, Goa.
Serving up a range of delicacies across Mexican and American cuisines, Antojitos in Panjim is home to some of the most meaty delights. From burgers and hot-dogs to quesadillas and authentic Goan street food, there’s a little bit of everything here, including great hospitality. Run by the duo Steve and Elvis, this brightly coloured red food truck is hard to miss and the food, hard to forget. The truck opens up at 5.30 pm and by 10.30 pm they’re pretty much done for the day so plan your visit accordingly, and don’t forget to try their beef burger!
