Back in 2015, Vanity Fair had several of the late-night hosts, including the likes of Jimmy Kimmel, Conan O’Brien and Stephen Colbert, group text each other. Amidst the witty jokes, quirky jibes and some NSFW content, was a rather awkward moment when Colbert asked where the women were, only to be responded by a unanimous – ‘Ha!’ and a shot of all of them grinning. Little did the men know that a few years later a YouTube sensation/comedian/actress/author/bawse is going to step into the ring to seal their mouths shut. That’s right, Lilly Singh is getting her own late-night show.

Lilly Singh aka Superwoman, is all set to host a late-night talk show on NBC replacing Carson Daly’s Last Call. Lilly appeared on fellow NBC host, Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show to announce the launch of her show, ‘A Little Late with Lilly Singh’, in September this year. The show is likely to include comedy sketches and in-studio interviews, a territory both Lilly and her 14 million YouTube subscribers are quite familiar with.

While this seems like a promising move by a network like NBC, female hosts aren’t unheard of. In the realm of late-night talk shows, we’ve seen the likes of Samantha Bee and Busy Phillips. However, it’s the first time an openly bisexual woman of colour is given such a massive platform in a traditionally male dominated format. The cherry on the top being her desi roots, which are clearly seen in her statement in which she says – “An Indian-Canadian woman with her own late night show? Now that is a dream come true. I’m thrilled to bring it to life on NBC, and I hope my parents consider this to be as exciting as a grandchild.”

This is without a doubt a watershed moment in the global entertainment industry and shows that it’s never too late to have more of these.
