Climate change is real and there’s no denying that. While varied measures for a sustainable future are being implemented, there’s still an appalling apathy and ignorance among the general masses. Majority of which stems from the lack of education and awareness at the grass root level.

To tackle this very problem, two young mountaineers Niraj Raviya (29) and Swapnil Rachelwar (29) have taken the bold step to travel the country and educate school children from different regions about climate change.

It all began on April 23rd, 2019. Their project, ‘Care for Climate’ is a 8-month long sustainable journey across India which has them climb several mountains and rock faces. When they are not climbing mountains, they educate the children of the municipal schools around the area about climate change and promote eco-friendly lifestyle changes for them to implement.

Swapnil is an active member of Leave No Trace Org (LNT) with an extensive experience in climbing high altitudes mountains promoting the cleanest and the most sustainable ways in doing so. Whereas Niraj leads a minimalist lifestyle with only 50 items in his closet and has been promoting the minimising of single-use plastics through his campaign ‘Change for Climate’ since 2015.

They have a touch base with 120 schools in the Regions Abu, Manali, Ladakh, Sahyadri, Badami, Bangaluru, Hampi, Sikkim. They will cover as many schools as possible with their Earth-friendly habits kit. They’ll be trekking Stok kangri, Golaib kangri, Hanuman TIbba, Frey Peak, Panchachuli Base Camp, Hansling and Multi-pitch rock climbing in Bengaluru, Tiruchirappalli, Hampi and Badami region.

They are also looking for donation and funds. Beyond covering their travel expenses and basic costs, the funds will help them propagate their message and cause in a bigger way.
