A Mumbai-Based Sustainable Social Impact Thrift Shop That Is Making Circular Fashion Cool
Bombay Closet Cleanse

Bombay Closet Cleanse is a social impact business with a mission to make circular fashion cool. Every piece they sell has a story — whether it’s an 18th birthday dress, mum’s wedding saree or a travel souvenir. They sift through thousands of pieces of clothing they collect from other donation drives all across Mumbai and create beautiful, meaningful collections that bring joy to lovers of thrift and vintage clothing. A small part of the proceeds goes towards children in need while clothes deemed fit for donation are distributed to a number of their affiliated NGOs. Never worn or mint condition clothes will be sold at their thrift store. The rest of the clothes will be donated to the cutest little munchkins at The Salvation Army Girls Home. Such an attempt at sustainable fashion is integral in today’s fashion scenario.

With collaborations with collectives like Rang Jogi, WeWork, Fancy Pants, Eye Candy and an array of vintage and streetwear labels, this homegrown venture has come a long way in the one year of its inception. Assorted desserts and craft beer options are available at their pop-up stores that ensure that the thrifting experience is pleasurable and social for their customers.

BCC was started by sisters Alfiya and Sana Khan that have tried to be sustainable with their own fashion and lifestyle choices. It started as a fun party that they hosted at Sana’s house and since then they have gone on to be a respectable venture that has attracted thrifters from all over Bombay and features in newspapers and magazines. They believe that they are nothing without the people that actively participate and respond to their cause and they urge you to do the same at their next cleanse. BCC has a network of friends that include celebrities and designers who have happily donated an excess of their favourite picks.

BCC is a journey that has taken them on a ride of its own momentum. As its expands rapidly, the team hopes to offer a lot more wholesomeness and positivity while making a bigger difference in 2020.
