Apply Now - 25 Scholarship Grants & NGO Funds For Indian Creators

Attention creators! More often than not you’ve been asked to work for free or heard the quintessential statement “ Is there any money in art?”. If you have a project you’ve been meaning to work on or need in general guidance on how to acquire the funds for it, we’ve listed some grants and scholarships for young artists and creators. You don’t have to work for free or even stop working due to a general lack of funds!

I. Asian Cultural Council

Asian Cultural Council makes fellowships and grants to support cultural exchange in the arts for practicing artists, scholars, and arts professionals. Priority is given to process-driven activities that enable cultural immersion, relationship-building, collaboration, or the exchange of knowledge among peers. Examples of process-driven activities include research, training, study, and exploration. ACC fellowships and grants are not intended for production-focused activities such as touring, performing, exhibiting, publishing, or making work.

II. Alserkal Arts Foundation

Alserkal Arts Foundation’s Research Grants are designed to support radical, innovative, and contemporary research that challenges traditional modes of practice in a variety of fields.

The grant seeks applications especially from those individuals and collectives that dynamically aim to disrupt conservative boundaries between conventional disciplines.

Potential grant awardees can include but are in no way limited to, multidisciplinary visual and sonic artists, architects, writers of fiction and non-fiction, independent publishers, documentary filmmakers and educators, geographers, historians, economists, and social scientists. Applicants who demonstrate a strong interest in pursuing broad, intersectional, and experimental approaches to research in their respective fields will be prioritised.

III. Visual Arts: International Research Programme

Danish Arts Foundation Funding is designed for curatorial research for curators, directors of art institutions and other art professionals. The Danish Arts Foundation’s Committee for Visual Arts Project Funding wishes to promote contemporary art in Denmark and Danish contemporary art abroad by allowing foreign curators to meet Danish artists and gain insight into the Danish contemporary art scene with a view to future collaborations. Curators, directors of art institutions and other art professionals from abroad may apply for funding for travel and accommodation in Denmark. The programme is primarily aimed at applicants who already have contacts on the Danish art scene or candidates who wish to develop a project involving specific Danish artists or institutions.

IV. Awesome Foundation

Every Month

Have a crazy brilliant idea that needs funding? They award $1,000 grants every month. It couldn’t be simpler! The grants are given out in a no strings attached way, they just want to see your awesome work. Their grants are chapter-specific or region-specific. The Awesome Foundation is driven by hundreds of volunteers around the world who organize, launch and run chapters that give out monthly grants. It’s simple and a lot of fun.

V. Artist Grant

January 15, April 15, July 15, and October 15

Artist Grant provides a $500 USD grant to one visual artist each grant cycle. They welcome all kinds of work and have multiple deadlines throughout the year. The organisation is run by creatives who come from different backgrounds to help other artists continue their good work. They do not require proposals or any indication of how the funds will be used by the applicants. They notify each applicant of the results at the conclusion of their review process (approximately 2-3 weeks after each deadline) and display the name and work of each grant recipient and a link to their website (if applicable) on their website and social media

VI. Artslink International Fellowship: Projects In The US

October 30, 2020

ArtsLink International Fellowships offers Fellows an opportunity to apply for co-production support to undertake projects in the United States in collaboration with a US non-profit arts organization or individual artist. The Fellowships are no longer art-specific as they encourage artists who demonstrate an active commitment to community engagement and dialogue. Applicants must be ArtsLink Fellows, who have already undertaken a hosted residency in the US curated by CEC ArtsLink.

VII. Association for Recorded Sound Collections

15th of December each year

ARSC Grants Program is designed to encourage and support scholarship and publication by individuals in the field of sound recordings or audio preservation. Both ARSC members and non-members are eligible for grants in amounts up to $1000. The program is administered by an ARSC Grants Committee including the chair, a member of the Technical Committee, and an expert on classical music. Proposals must be received by the 15th of December each year. Grant amounts generally range from $2000 to $10,000. Grant projects should be completed within twenty-four months.

VIII. Prairie Ronde Art Residency

1 March, 15 June, and 1 December

The Prairie Ronde Artist Residency is located in historic Vicksburg, Michigan, near Kalamazoo. The residency provides access to the 420,000 square foot former Lee Paper Company paper mill and its adjacent 80 acres of property to use as inspiration. Artists are also encouraged to utilize our close ties to members of the village community and the area’s creative community. They provide housing and studio space for one resident at a time, three times a year. They offer a stipend of $2,000 for 4 – 7 weeks, a $500 travel grant, and use of a car.

IX. Kalanirvana International Art Center

Students accepted in the Kalanirvana International Art Centre can apply for creative grants to make art in India. They are further counseled on how to generate funds by crowdfunding or private funding platforms. They guide artists to information sources on funding opportunities. Their residency programs are highly touted and all-inclusive.

X.Adolph & Esther Gottlieb Foundation

Deadline - 15 December 2020

The foundation has Individual Support Grants and Emergency Support Grants. The Emergency Support Grant has no deadline. The annual deadline for the Individual Support Grant is 15th December every year.

The Foundation wishes to encourage artists who have dedicated their lives to developing their art, regardless of their level of commercial success.

XI. Tribeca Film Institution

The Gucci Tribeca Documentary Fund provides finishing funds to feature-length documentaries which highlight and humanize issues of social importance from around the world. The Fund supports projects that explore the biggest issues impacting planet, people and progress. The grant amount ranges between 10,000-30,000 US.

XII. The Hopper Prize

The Hopper Prize is a grant-making institution and digital archiving platform offering a series of individual artist grants on a bi-annual basis totaling $10,000.00 USD. The Prize was established to provide grants, visibility, and career-enhancing validation to artists who demonstrate a serious commitment to their work. They view the field of visual art in its broadest and most inclusive sense and therefore make their awards available to artists working in any media.

XIII. International Women’s Media Foundation

Twice Yearly

The Reporting Grants for Women’s Stories provide opportunities for women journalists to pursue international stories of importance through gender-sensitive coverage of underreported topics. The grant amounts are $5000 on an average for each project. The grant takes applications twice a year and therefore applicants should be careful with their project timelines before applying.

XIV. International Studio & Curatorial Program

31st March 2020

Artists and curators from anywhere in the world, including the United States, can apply for International Program residencies at ISCP. ISCP collaborates with over forty partner governments, institutions and organizations to fund residency opportunities. Partner sponsors publicly call for applications for residencies at ISCP. These residencies are generally between three and twelve months and are sponsored by governments, corporations, foundations, institutions, organizations, galleries and private patrons.

XV. Goethe Talents Scholarship Around Pop-Kultur Berlin

18th March

The Goethe Talents Scholarship is aimed at young musicians, composers, singer-songwriters, and instrumentalists between 20 and 30 years old from transition or developing countries.

Participants can expect studio visits, jam-sessions, short traineeships in selected companies of the Berlin creative industries, listening sessions and meetings with scholarship holders of Musicboard Berlin GmbH, as well as many other activities. Networking will be a big part of the experience, and you will also get a chance to perform on the Nachwuchs-Stage on one of the evenings in the Pop-Kultur Live programme. Applicants should have advanced English skills and work experience in the field of music, with proof of at least 3 projects and a link to a video of a live performance of theirs.

XVI. Good Pitch

Once a year

Documentary filmmakers from around the world are given a platform to pitch their film ideas which have a strong social impact. Good Pitch organises events on a national and local level, making it an all-inclusive platform. Participants are chosen for a year-round filmmaking process, where they choose social causes and turn them into a feature-length documentary for the final pitch.

The foundation carefully evaluates each application with an emphasis on selecting projects which display depth of knowledge and are most interested in opportunities that enable them to provide critical support at key points in the development of a project or career.

Funding NGO and Social Impact Projects

It all starts with a social studies project for kids in school. The need to contribute towards social causes is a great catalyst for lasting changes. I. Sitaram Jindal Foundation Donations open for Indian Charitable Organisations

For Indian charitable organisation that needs financial assistance e.g Schools, Hospitals, Orphanages and Old age homes to assist and promote their inspiring work. The Foundation supports these projects by financially supporting their recurring and non-recurring expenditure.

II. Bengaluru Sustainability Forum Small Grants in India

Bengaluru Sustainability Forum (BSF) is currently inviting applicants for its Small Grants Program to support innovative, unusual and forward-thinking collaborative project ideas around the issues of urban water, urban biodiversity, urban climate change or the linkages between them. The maximum amount granted is around 5 lakh INR per proposal. Applicants can include illustrators, scientists, architects, government employees, and interested citizens.

III. Funding in India for Small Charities Serving Children and Adults

No Deadline

The Vijay Amritraj Foundation is accepting funding applications from smaller charities of India who do not have the ability to raise money or awareness for their causes. The charities could be serving children and adults who face challenges like HIV/AIDS, family abandonment and societal ostracization for their illnesses. Their motive is to bring relief and hope to the defenseless victims of disease, tragedy, and circumstances in India.

IV. NASSCOM Social Innovation Forum Challenge - India

15th June

The NASSCOM Foundation is seeking applications for its NASSCOM Social Innovation Forum (NSIF) Challenge, which is a ‘Tech for Good’ platform that aims to drive technology-led innovation for the Base of the Pyramid (BoP) population.

They include thematic categories of social impact: Education, health and sanitation, environment amongst other social causes.

V. Grants for NGOs by SBI Foundation

Year-round

State Bank of India Foundation accepts applications from organisations around the year to support them in specific projects if it is aligned with the 6 focus areas of the Foundation. These include Healthcare and Sanitation, Education. Skills and Livelihood Development, Women Empowerment and Care for Senior Citizens, Sustainability & Environment and Rural Development. State Bank Group formed the SBI foundation for all CSR activities to bring smile socio-economically backward sections of society.

VI. WWSF Prize for Women’s Creativity in Rural Life

WWSF – an international, non-profit, humanitarian NGO, serving the implementation of women and children’s rights and the UN development agenda honors women and women’s groups around the world exhibiting exceptional creativity, courage and commitment for the improvement of the quality of life in rural communities. The aim of the prize is to bring attention to laureates’ contributions to sustainable development, food security, and peace. They contribute to the eradication of rural poverty, gender mainstreaming and women’s empowerment. A cash award of $1000 will be given to each laureate.

VII. 2020 World Habitat Awards to Foster Innovative Solutions to Global Housing Challenges

Applications are now open for 2020 World Habitat Awards to recognise and highlight innovative, outstanding and sometimes revolutionary housing ideas, projects and programmes from across the world. Through extensive networking, it brings people and ideas together- from major global institutions and national governments to grass-roots organisations and local communities. The foundation’s main focus is to create social impact campaigns through extensive funding. Their main focus is on education, health, and community development. Each year they collaborate with local NGOs to organise teachers’ training camps, pediatric medical camps, and massive tree plantations.
