Daily Update: Research Grants For Indian Scientists & Academics To Develop COVID-19 Solution

This list will guide all researchers and academicians working on a solution for the COVID-19. If you need extensive funding towards research in developing anti-virals, medicines or even for clinical trials for vaccines, check our list and submit your proposal at the earliest.

I. Omidyar Network India

They are granting funds up to 7.5 crores for rapid response funding to tackle the challenges posed by the COVID-19 situation and the consequent socio-economic impact.

NGOs, research organisations, social entrepreneurs, and for-profit businesses seeking to do this on a no-profit basis with proposals in the range of 5 lakhs- 2 crores can apply now.

The group invites proposals that strengthen containment, detection and treatment, support crisis management capabilities and enhance resilience and recovery in the wake of Covid-19.

II. Indian Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB)

There is an urgent need to ramp up national R&D efforts for new antivirals, vaccines, and affordable diagnostics. In this context, SERB announces a special IRHPA Call (3-year duration) specifically designed for COVID-19 and related respiratory viral infections.

Academic and research institutions are encouraged to submit competitive proposals having a strong interdisciplinary component between chemists, biologists, virologists, immunologists, and clinicians.

III. COVID-19 Research Consortium

Department of Biotechnology (DBT) And Biotechnology Industry Research and Assistance Council (BIRAC) Announce COVID-19 Research Consortium

COVID-19 has been declared as a pandemic by WHO due to the alarming levels of spread and severity. Till date, there is no specific medicine to treat or prevent COVID-19.

The theme of the current RFP is: Developing Diagnostics, Vaccines, novel Therapeutics, repurposing of drugs and any other intervention for control of COVID-19 outbreak. Projects submitted must take into account the criteria for affordability, wide-spread adoption and have a realistic possibility for scale-up.

IV. COVID-19 Solution Challenge: A Call for Individuals or Startups in India

The Government of India is taking all necessary steps to ensure that we are prepared well to face the challenge and threat posed by the growing pandemic of COVID 19 – the Corona Virus. The most important factor in preventing the spread of the Virus locally is to empower the citizens with the right information and taking precautions as per the advisories being issued by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. Further, they are also getting inputs concerning individuals and companies who have developed technologies and innovative solutions, Bioinformatics, datasets, apps for diagnosis etc that can be leveraged for strengthening the fight against Corona.

The winner of the challenge will be rewarded prize money of 1 lakh INR.

V. Novartis COVID-19 Response Fund

The Novartis COVID-19 Response Fund will provide USD 20 million in grants to support public health initiatives designed to help communities manage challenges posed by the pandemic. The company has established an accelerated global review process that will allow for quick approval and disbursement of individual grants of up to USD 1 million. The fund is open to grant applications that will be processed through Novartis affiliates in the countries.
