#HGAcademy: How To Build A Sustainable And Conscious Fashion Brand With Mahima Gujaral Of Sui

#HGAcademy: At a time when our physical spaces are confined and movement is stifled, the only constant in our lives is our own creativity. For a while, we, at Homegrown have been toying with the idea of evolving our platform into space that inspires generations to believe that their career paths are not limited to those shaped by our society and that there is a world out there that where creative industries are thriving. Our sole motivation behind this attempt is to shift the needle in the Indian creative industries.

Homegrown as a brand has always stood for responding to the Indian youth’s needs, and to this end, we bring to you HG Academy, to teach you everything your school didn’t. As we spend our days inside our homes and within ourselves, HGAcademy with its commune of creative thought leaders and pioneers will teach you the basics that you might not get access to elsewhere. We hope for it to evolve into a culture of creation, collaboration, discovery through an exchange of thoughts & ideas. The coming weeks will see digital festivals, skill-building sessions, new personal & professional strategies and similar efforts towards connecting you to the world of creators to learn and be inspired. The aim is to deep-dive into the creative process, new ways of learning, re-imagination of old ways and experience and learn more.

This week, we have Mahima Gujral of Sui, a fashion brand, teach us the dynamics of building a conscious and sustainable brand in increasingly delicate times. Mahima Gujral is the third generation entrepreneur to join the Sue Mue brand. She, like her mother, was born into a world of fashion and was exposed to its various aspects. She grew up recognizing the beauty of custom made clothing and the value of traditional Indian fabric and embroidery.

Mahima graduated with Honours in Fashion Management from the Lasalle College of the Arts, Singapore. She returned to India in 2012 and joined Christian Dior under the mentorship of the brand’s Vice-President (India), Kalyani Chawla. After three years at Dior, Mahima joined Sue Mue as a Marketing and PR associate to help expand the operations of the 47-year-old fashion house by strategizing and executing a growth plan for the brand.

Sui (translated Needle) began as a journey to connect the threads of clean design to those of travel. Not any kind of travel, travel that inspires, energizes, and fascinates. For that matter, the palm and the needle are at the core of what we do. We are a bunch of travelers and fashion marketeers who love the world and at the same time, we are fascinated by the voice and creativity of fashion. Bringing this together was the idea of Sui.”
