Bitches Brew Podcast Is Spilling The Tea & Reclaiming The Narrative On Your 20’s

Reclaiming the word ‘bitch’ are Aditi Sivaraman and Alina Gufran whose podcast ‘Bitches Brew is a safe space to discuss everything under the sun. Like most of us, Netflix’s Indian Matchmaking’s problematic nature did not sit well with the two and they decided to start a podcast addressing the problems faced by those in their 20s up till their mid-30s. Alina tells us, “after Indian Matchmaking was released, we were arguing on Instagram about it. Less arguing, more passionately discussing how problematic the show really is when one of us, can’t remember who at this point, was like — “Hey, wanna do a podcast? We got on a call ... and a month later, we had the first episode out.”

The writer and filmmaker duo met back in 2016 while attending Film School in Prague. They assisted on each other’s film school projects through their college years. But embarked on different journeys upon coming back to India. However, they stayed in touch and met at social gatherings. The podcast is a result of their friendship and their common goal to have an open space for conversation during the pandemic.

The duo discusses issues that it feels passionately about and feels that a larger section of youth will resonate with. When asked about the ideation process behind the podcast, Aditi commented, “The podcast came about very spontaneously and was born out of a desire to have open conversations about topics that may be considered contentious by some. Usually, one of us proposes an idea and the other agrees or disagrees and up until this point we’ve both been fairly agreeable. Once we agree on a topic we put down talking points and find guests for the episode.”

The topics range from mental health and the impact of influencers on that discourse, on how art and money co-exist, and the daunting question of marriage that confronts people in their late 20s within the Indian society.

You can find their podcast on Spotify, Apple, and Google.
