#Homebound: Behind The Bookshelves

As you are standing there excited about what the next few days will entail, you hear subtle footsteps and what sounds like a walking stick.

“Must be the caretaker of the house. David Uncle, is that you?” your partner calls out.

As your partner’s voice echoes through the rather silent and vacant house, you decide to follow the sound. You nimbly scoot around the dusty and rather huge living room filled with cobwebs and antique furniture. While you are oddly fascinated by the grandeur of this once seemingly beautiful mansion, there is something about this place that is making you feel queasy.

“I think the voice is coming from behind this huge blue door,” you tell your partner who is still standing at the entrance looking through the stuff you’ve brought along.

“Come on, now,” you say rather annoyed by your partner’s inactivity. They’ve always been rather slow, in your opinion.

You try to turn the knob but the room seems to be locked from inside. “Is there a key to this room?” you ask your partner who shrugs, “I don’t know, I haven’t been here before either.”

As you are about to walk away, you hear a sound in this eerily silent house which sounds much like the door unlocking.

“That’s strange. Doesn’t that seem weird to you? Anyway, get in” you say, shoving your partner inside the room, trying to act unfazed by this.

“Whoa, these books must be at least 200 years old. Just look at them!”

Just as you begin raving about the books, you hear repeated thuds. Nothing seems moved from its place, however. You try to ask your partner if they heard that too but they are nowhere in sight.

You call out to your partner repeatedly but there isn’t any response. “Must’ve gone looking for the caretaker,” you think to yourself.

The floorboards start to creak more loudly. The footsteps now seem to be approaching you. You turn around and there’s no one. Is this some sort of a prank?

Rather annoyed by this point, you pick up the book lying on the table. The entire bookshelf turns outwards to open up a rather dark room. Maybe the sound of the footsteps was coming from there?
