#HGStreams Anoushka Maskey Addresses The Mental Exhaustion Of Staying Updated In A Pandemic

To say we are an Instagram generation would not be an exaggeration at all. With the world easily accessible at the tip of our fingers, we often find ourselves caught in a loop of over-information. This constant bombardment of information (if I may dare to call it so) can leave us all feeling quite overwhelmed. But in a day and age where staying updating is so easy, walking away from it can lead to feelings of guilt. Perhaps that is the reason why the current generation also engages in doomscrolling, literally translated it means that when the world starts caving in we continue to consume more and more information in an attempt to stay with the times even if it leads to fatigue and exhaustion.

2020, more than any other year brought with it the challenge of this constant tussle between whether to witness all that was happening in the world or to sit back and take a breather. Sikkim origin singer-songwriter Anoushka Maskey trying to seek answers for this dilemma decided to pen a song that explores these uncomfortable feelings. The dreamy video accompanying Makey’s mellow and haunting voice add to the sense of whimsical atmosphere that the song intends to create. “Written during the lockdown in 2020, ‘Empire of Fear’ is inspired by the dilemma of wanting to stay updated with the tragedies of the world on daily news and the turmoil in one’s personal life, while wanting to detach from it, for the sake of sanity, at the same time. The song is about being a dreamer in this world where cold facts and tragic worldly situations are constantly making it hard to be one” wrote Maskey while releasing the single on her YouTube channel.
