Pune’s Prem Nagar Slums Get A Vibrant New Face-Lift Through The PMC's Urban Planning Initiative

As part of its tactical urbanism plan which views to include low-cost, temporary changes to public spaces, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has initiated a massive street revamp project.

Utilising the 7000 square feet Market Yard space of Pune’s Premnagar slums, the project aims to reimagine underutilised public spaces into pedestrian-friendly centres to accommodate community-building events.

In collaboration with the BRICK school of architecture, the PMC has transformed the massive open yard which was once a parking lot into a vibrant space that hosts public events for people of all age groups. The revamp includes art installations, wall murals, and more that relate to immediate community living in the vicinity.

The initiative was unveiled to the public by MLA Sunil Kamble and the association heads at the PMC earlier this month.
