3 Homegrown Ilustrators Tapping Into The Joy Of Everyday Living
L: Roshan Gawand R: Angshuman Dhar

Our lives are made up of seemingly little infinite moments, many that go unnoticed as we go about our daily life. While art can help us escape from this chaos of daily life, sometimes it can also help us tap into everyday moments, give them a fresher perspective and make us appreciate the sometimes funny and sometimes ordinary moments.

Documenting moments of everyday life are three homegrown illustrators who are breathing colour and joy into seemingly mundane living.

With a comic feel, illustrator and animator Angshuman Dhar’s work is playful and oddly specific. Capturing odd moments or ordinary moments that capture his imagination, his illustrations are a deep dive into nostalgia or moments of joy and laughter. For one of his illustrations on Kolkata autos, he writes, “I would never have guessed the number of people you can fit in an auto if it wasn’t for the Kolkata autowalas.”

Capturing the essence of the daily Indian life through his illustrations is Navi-Mumbai based freelance illustrator Roshan Gawand. Having spent his childhood in his native village, his illustrations draw inspiration from the daily life in a village. In bright and vibrant hues, his illustrations add colour to the rural Indian landscape and its daily goings.

III. Siddhi

Mumbai-based illustrator Siddhi is documenting ordinary moments that make up our lives through her series ‘100 Days Of Archiving Home.’ The simple illustrations that started by capturing daily moments through the concept of doors like returning from the market or returning from a vacation have now expanded to capturing moments on the street like picking flowers and feeding stray dogs.
