Ashima Raizada’s First Solo Exhibition Traverses The Territories Of Body, Image & Identity

Debuting her first solo show in association with terrain art is Ashima Raizada, a multi-disciplinary artist experimenting with different art mediums.

The self-taught artist’s much-anticipated show titled It All Leads To The Same Place, brings together a spectrum of works she’s created over the years as well the ideas of self and its translation into materiality.

Ashima's exploration of the self through an artistic lens.

Tying the conversation around identity and its ever-evolving facets, the project sees her collaborate with Srinivas Aditya to exemplify the confluence of materials and movement in an interactive space.

Exploring the idea of the body in its multiple manifestations of identity and materiality, Raizada is inspired by formats of contemporary image-making interfaces such as Instagram, which are increasingly defining our everyday experiences. Presented in the performance studio of the Khuli Khirkee community, this site-specific exhibition delves into the concept of ‘oneness’ using ideas and materials that lead back to the site of the human body.

Exploring the idea of the body in its multiple manifestations of identity and materiality, the artist uses various artistic interface such as visual collages and poetic expression that documents her exploration of self-image and identity.

Reflecting on the inspiration behind her latest body of work, she was prompted by the coexistence of multiple virtual personalities and the sheer power of our bodies that allows us to get through adverse times. Building on her artistic ruminations and offering an experiential visual treat, the exhibition is purposefully being hosted in a dance studio to highlight the history of bodies creating meaning through movement.

Catch the emerging artist’s exhibition from 27 April- May 3 at Khuli Khirkee (next to Khoj Studios).

“The series traverses the territories of the body, identity, irony and humor; focusing on observations from everyday life. The cracked lips sitting beside the cracked wall; a flower blooming from the glitching eye. Working on this project has been akin to keeping a visual diary.”
