'Desi Chaat' Is A South Asian Twist To The Classic Card Game 'Taboo'

To imagine one’s childhood without the thrill of card games and board games seems almost impossible. There is an undeniable joy in the laughter shared, the bubbling competitiveness and the multi-format nature of card games that make them popular even today in the day and age of the internet. With so many card games in the market, there still aren’t many that encapsulate the desi experience. While antakshri and carrom are great fun, desi card games are on the rise and we are all for it.

One that has certainly been doing the rounds for a few years now is ‘Desi Chaat’ by Culturally Inclined Productions. A desi spin on the classic card game Taboo! where each card has a target word on top that must be guessed without the person using the words mentioned on the card.

Founded by Priya Shah who wanted to recreate the magic of Taboo! with her desi version, Desi Chaat is the perfect game night addition to bring the family together over some healthy competition. The idea for the game came to Shah while she was still in college. Being extremely involved with the South-Asian community on her campus, she felt there was a gap in card games that desis could love and enjoy.

The card game will have you guessing a name like ‘Sachin Tendulkar’ without saying the words cricket, batting, sports and ball. With over 1500 words set across 375 cards, you and your family can indulge in an evening of guessing common desi phrases like ‘tere baap ka rasta hai’ (is it your father’s road), popular South-Asian words like ‘dhaba’ (a roadside eatery) and even famous Bollywood personalities and movies

For now, the card game is only available in the US and can be picked up from Edison, NJ or ordered online on Amazon.
