Recently opened at Ballard Estate in Mumbai is IFBE. A once-disintegrating 144-year-old ice factory has now been refashioned into a space for new art, design and architecture. Hosting their first annual Independence Day exhibition, the programme of events will include artists, filmmakers, doctors, dancers and theatre performers over the course of the week.
An extensive program being held from 15-20 August 2022, ‘The Independence Project’ is to serve as a crucible for torchbearers of openness, inclusivity, and unfettered thinking. Launching with a photography exhibition titled ‘freedom looks good on you’ by Acqui Thami x The Dharavi Art Room. The show features specially commissioned photographs made by seven talented young artists who are the first individuals in their families to go to college and to experience Mumbai outside of Dharavi every day.
“We are delighted to present The Independence Project. At IFBE, we believe that the foundation of all meaningful creative pursuit is freedom, and also that the journey to achieve freedom begins from within. We dedicate the week of India’s Independence to amplifying free voices from across the country, through a variety of workshops, film screenings, exhibitions and performances. Come to experience freedom, minus empty rhetoric and mindless jargon. Come to celebrate freedom with an open mind.”
