Mohit Tiwari

As a creative, Mohit Tiwari’s imagery is evocative of both the experience and the ability that he possesses as a photographer and visual storyteller. He uses his photography to communicate complex and multidimensional ideas centred on everything from the social and cultural dynamics of queer relationships to individual expressions of intimacy. We spoke to the photographer to get some more insight into his process.

Could you tell us a little about your latest project?

I wanted to build a series that portrays the dual side of queer relationships where on one side they share a bond and intimacy amongst themselves but on the other, there’s a secret of what they are and what they want in society as well as in their family.

What are some of your biggest inspirations over the years of your artistic career?

Cinema, tv-series and filmmakers around the world.

Describe your creative process and the purpose with which you create.

I like to talk to my subjects during the shoot and to get them to share their stories along with what they are comfortable doing. I also explain the overall concept I am going with.

Which is your favourite piece of work of your own and why?

A series I did called ‘Kiss Me On The Mouth And Set Me Free’.

I did it when 377 wasn’t decriminalised and it’s one of the most personal works I’ve put out there.

One track you’re currently listening to?

I’ve been listening to a lot of ghazals lately one of which is ‘Khwab Bann Ke’ by Ghulam Ali.

A project you wish you were a part of?

Honestly, I am pretty content with the position I am in.
