“Dance, when you’re broken open. Dance, if you’ve torn the bandage off. Dance in the middle of the fighting. Dance in your blood. Dance when you’re perfectly free.”
- Rumi
A few moons ago, we were lucky enough to chance upon the incredibly dynamic work of LA-based Indian photographer Arjun Kamath. And when he spoke to us about his upcoming project, capturing a prolific Russian dancer’s dream, we knew it would be worth the wait. So without further ado, Homegrown presents Kamath’s ‘A Russian Dream: Through The Eyes Of An Artiste.’

Artist Speak:

“The Russian Dream – Through the eye of an artiste” is a visual-style documentary narrative that explores the life of the spirited Olga Sokolova, a Russian dancer and performer who, after traveling to over 40 countries and surviving a terrifying kidnapping incident, is now a master of her craft, performing for many, including the Dalai Lama. Struggle is common for all people, but it is often artists who are able to use it as their source of inspiration; the stories of artistes like Olga Sokolova must therefore be told, to inspire other artistes engaged in such struggle. The photographs I have captured and compiled for this project were taken in the heart of Los Angeles, where Olga performs, teaches, and introspects. She breathes life into the images, which exude drama and genuine emotion.”

Homegrown Verdict:

“the content of these images is in the style of a documentary, but its packaging is slick and visually captivating.”
