Every year in January, the streets of Mumbai turn into an enigmatic chaos of colours. As the crowd starts their journey from the expansive Kranti Maidan, curous bystanders and people leaning out of their windows are greeted by the incessant drumming of the dhols and chants from the parade, ranging from “We want justice” to “Azaadi,” not to mention a particularly sweet Gujarati slogan, “Taaro Maaro Same Che, Prem Che, Prem Che” (You and I are the same; There is love where there is love). Being a part of the annual Pride parade is a unique experience and one honestly needs to be there to truly understand it.
However, once the parade has been wrapped up and everyone’s exhausted enough to call it a day, who doesn’t like to cool off with some good music, great food, and the best company? All of which can be found at this year’s 2x2 Bar Nights: Pride Edition organised by Gaysi.
This year is about celebrating “Pride for all”. “We’re celebrating and accepting the intersections in our society in an attempt to push the boundaries and make space for ALL of us to have fun- walking it off at the Pride March first and then shaking it at THE BEST PARTY EVAH”, says their official Facebook event page.
Like every year, Gaysi is going to ensure a safe space for all LBT and Non-binary persons by creating an ambience that welcomes them. Moreover, they are taking active efforts to ensure that the gender ratio is fair and geared towards maintaining safety of the community members.
So while the party is open for all, there are certain restrictions. All Cis-men who want to attend the party must be accompanied by their LBT and Non-binary friends. However, if you are a Cis-man who doesn’t have any LBT/Non-binary friends then you can write to firstname.lastname@example.org explaining your situation and they’ll try to work something out for you.
Also, online ticket sales will close at 9 PM today so it’s advisable to book in advance or else you might have to wait in a queue before the party begins!
