Homegrown is a rapidly-growing Indian youth media company that prides itself in delivering quality content across multiple verticals that constantly excites and nurtures our audience. I. EDITORIAL OPERATIONS ASSOCIATE

The position is that of an Editorial Operations Associate who will help take our trailblazing media company to the next level. Are you driven by big ideas, innovation and storytelling? Are you hyper-organised with a knack for putting operational systems in place? Do you have excellent communication skills and like the idea of working with a creative and dynamic team? Are you perfectly unafraid of a fast-paced digital media environment and excited to be cultivated for the next phase of disruptive thinking within content creation and web culture? We want to meet with you.

Key Functions:

You will work directly under the Editor-in-Chief/ Co-founder managing the following executions and thinking.

- Oversee and manage day-to-day operations of a small team of in-house writers as well as a network of freelancers and contributors.

- Problem-solve daily issues that crop up in the fast-paced ecosystem of digital media whether it’s problematic titles or breaking news that needs to be tackled quickly with our distinct point of view.

- Proofreading, copy-editing and watching all the content that goes out like a hawk to catch potential issues as preemptively as possible.

- Identify and secure junior and senior level writers as well as interns for individual content projects or the in-house team, depending on the need of the hour.

- Monitor Traffic and oversee daily progress and goals.

- Report to the Editor on a weekly basis and sit in on strategic thinking for operational solutions and growing traffic.

- Oversee brand content partnerships to ensure both the brand’s and our integrity + distinct point of view is being maintained and deadlines are being met.

- Scheduling of content.

- Work with Teams in both Marketing and Editorial to optimize editor & freelancer performance, and recommend any pivots for daily/monthly traffic wins.

- Onboarding and mentoring new team-members on the editorial team.

- Taking part in content ideation and understanding when filtering is required to ensure it’s within the Homegrown voice.

- Liaise with tech team on back-end/ front-end issues and updates when required.

- Eventually, overlooking departmental budget as pertaining to freelance hires/writers etc.

What You Should Have:

- At least 4/5 years + in the digital media world as a writer/ editor/ reporter of which at least 1 year should preferably have been in a managerial role.

- Good writing/ copy-editing/ proofreading skills.

- Flexible and good with time management and maintaining efficiency across a cross-functional role between creative and administrative.

- Great communication skills because you will be liaising with people constantly in this role.

- An ability to view things from a macro level and think strategically as well as systematically.

- Comfortable managing a team that’s continuously changing and growing.

- Excellent organisation skills.

- A great attitude, a love for animals and a weird sense of humour smooths the transition.

II. LIFESTYLE EDITOR

Job Description:

People applying for the Lifestyle Editor position should see the potential of what we’re trying to build. Are you singularly obsessed with next-generation Indian creatives and excited to document the shifting energy across the country? Do you have great instincts about emerging Indian subcultures whether it’s skateboarding or other hip-hop ancillaries? Do you have a strong sense of identity and understanding about independent fashion, art, travel, events, and spaces, not to mention an insatiable appetite for discovery that translates into your topic identifying, writing and editing skills? If yes, we want to meet you. We’re looking for someone who is continuously on the pulse of what is going on in contemporary India, across cities, and is truly passionate about identifying and documenting these stories/ spearheading this space. Our dream sub-editor would also ensure that every aspect of the lifestyle department is optimised top to bottom and is unafraid to work in a fast-paced digital environment.

Key Job Functions:

You will work directly under the CEO and Editor-in-Chief to roll out the following executions and thinking.

- Cultivating and directing a small team of 3-4 writers and interns in-house, as well as a network of freelancers/ contributors as they are secured.

- Identifying and secure people for the above positions when required.

- Writing, Copy-editing, Proofreading and Strategizing about positioning of content with your team so as to maintain Homegrown’s distinct brand identity and voice at all times.

- Creating reports for the Editor-in-Chief which detail progress as well as offer pivots and new directions to keep growing the space in.

What You’ll Need:

- At least 3-4+ years of full-time experience in writing/ reporting/ editing within the digital media ecosystem.

- Comfort in managing a small but dynamic team.

- An in-built instinct for identifying fresh stories within the space and an understanding of Homegrown’s identity + voice.

- A willingness and desire to learn and grow.

- Great communication skills as you will be liaising with people often.
