Moosa Saleem's Latest Track Exemplifies Thoughtful, Romantic Indie Pop

The independent music scene is thriving in India. Today we are looking at Moosa Saleem (, a musician, author, and film director, who hails from the beautiful region of Jammu and Kashmir. He is currently based out of Mumbai. He has been in the music industry for the past seven years and has released around 80 tracks. He has collaborated with artists from around the world and has released his tracks on some of the finest indie labels for electronic music.

Moosa’s music has been featured by renowned Dutch DJs Martin Garrix, Nicky Romero and Don Diablo, and Brazilian DJ and music composer, Alok on their radio shows and festival performances. He has also collaborated with some artists from India as well such as Siddharth Basrur, Neuman Pinto, and Sanjana Devarajan, who are talented vocalists in their own right. Moosa has also been making some Hindi/Urdu music with up-and-coming musicians from India.

Moosa is diverse when it comes to genres and not rigidly stuck to just one sound. From trap and pop to contemporary classical and house music, he shows his versatility across multiple genres that express the full range of his musical tastes.

Moosa’s latest track Marziyan has been released recently in collaboration with indie artist, Soham Mallick. With thoughtful romantic lyrics and indie pop elements, the song reads like a love letter. The singer addresses his lover with beautiful similes and metaphors to know about their wishes and how he can fulfill them. This is Moosa’s second collaboration with Soham Mallick and a track very close to his heart. The musician was also the band manager for a Sufi rock band from Kashmir, called BloodRockz. He owns a production company, Access Code Entertainment, and a record label, Jhelum Records.

Other than excelling in his music career, Moosa has also made seven short films including one stop-motion animation film and three music videos. He made his first feature film at the age of 20. He rose to fame after directing a music video for Saints in Vain which was aired on MTV Indies and VH1. He has also worked under the guidance of the internationally acclaimed director, Kujtim Çashku, and the renowned Indian director, Vishal Bhardwaj. He generally considers his first film, Long Dark Road (2014) a mumble-core film.
