Nearly a Decade Later, Run It’s The Kid Find Their Way Back Through An 'Hourglass'
Nearly a decade ago, a Delhi-based four-piece act consisting of Shantanu Pandit (vocals, guitar), Dhruv Bhola (guitar, keys), Bhairav Gupta (drums), and Danik Ghosh (bass) emerged from the moody, waltz-like shadows of the Indian independent music scene. Run It’s the Kid released their first — and only — album in 2016, a record steeped in dreamlike piano sequences and gentle, folksy guitar patterns. The self-titled album carved out a small but lasting space for itself, resonating with listeners who found solace in its understated melodies and emotional restraint. At a time when the indie scene was growing louder and more performative, Run It’s the Kid chose quiet sincerity, allowing their music to linger long after it ended.
Now, the kid is back — pared down to just Pandit and Bhola, the latter also known as the bassist for Peter Cat Recording Co. Their latest single, Hourglass, feels like a soft snapshot of nostalgia, the kind you stumble upon unexpectedly. It sounds like a memory unfolding in real time: peddling towards love, heart thudding with anticipation, rehearsing conversations you’ll never actually have, hoping to heal the damage of the past. There’s a tender innocence to the track, one that mirrors that in-between age where time feels both endless and fleeting.
The musical restraint in the song’s arrangement allows the vocals to breathe. When they sing, “Sing me to sleep; teach the winds how to weep,” it feels less like a dramatic declaration and more like a private confession. The harmonium that comes into the end drives home the nostalgia, like a tune you heard somewhere some time and it itched a part of your brain you could never figure out.
With Pandit and Bhola driving along a quiet road in Goa, Run It’s the Kid doesn’t return to reinvent itself, but to pick up where it left off, giving us a song that yearns achingly — a preview of music that takes you back in time and makes you pause to breathe.
