Holi celebrations that took place on March 24 across the country are similar with vibrant colours, music, dance, and of course, bhang. What differs however, is the style and traditions of this festival of colours from region to region.

In Pushkar, Rajasthan, the celebration of Holi is an international affair. A culturally rich city, Pushkar festivities are famous and the entire town joins in on the revelry, with locals as well as the international community and tourists gathering in the town square to thumping bass music and kaleidoscopic colours.

Photographer Nirvair Singh Rai was at Pushkar, and through his spectacular photographs taken for PIC (Photography - Ideation - Curation), a collection for photographers and artists, we’re privileged to get a special glimpse of how the infamous Pushkar Holi was celebrated this year.

We see a sea of people covered in hues of blue, pink, green and red come together to dance, hug and laugh, smearing each other with gulaal, all in good spirit and a camaraderie of sorts, as barriers of class, age and gender break down, if only for a day.
