Have you found yourself stuck in the middle of a tiny room full of instruments, band members piling up on top of each other, replete with neighbours telling you to take your ‘art’ and stick it where the sun don’t shine? We know that feeling all too well. With the burgeoning talent of guitarists, drummers, singers, and other musicians in Delhi, skill has rarely been a roadblock–but the lack of suitable spaces certainly has. Musical talent that is left untapped is a such a colossal waste, so we turned our erstwhile support into slightly more fruitful research and created a compilation of nine beautiful and well-equipped jam rooms in Delhi to harbour these talents or hobbyists.

Where: Loyal Jamming Studio, RZ 154 First Floor, Jagdamba Main Road, Tughlakabad Extension, New Delhi

Loyal Jamming Studio came around in 2015, bringing art and space together, to create the illusion of performing live, in their jam room. With a fully sound proof jampad, acoustically treated with balanced frequencies, the studio seems to be kitted out nicely. The room is open to jam in from 9am to 12 midnight, along with the following equipment available — Bass Amps, Guitar Amps, a Drum Set, Zildjian Cymbals, and 2 Vocal Mics. An extra mic is available too. Besides these necessary installations, the studio also provides a lounge area where bands and musicians can interact, and a canteen with snacks and cold drinks available.

Who’s Jammed Here: Undying Inc, Advaita, Moongphali, Tankbund have set up here, before.

Charges: Rs. 250 per hour is a pretty sweet deal for the amenities provided.

SoundSpeaks aims to provide a platform for budding musicians across the country. The studio is large and comfortable, and the jam room houses up to nine people. Their equipment ranges from mixers, amps, a drum set and more instruments. Open from 9am to 11pm, the studio also houses a ‘Zen Fountain’ and staff who claim to entertain every whim and fancy of a musician. The lounge area, shower and kitchen all aid in their attempt to provide a whole, clean, and healthy experience. Besides all these amenities, the studio also provides Electronic Music Production courses. SoundSpeaks also does film scores and electronic music projects.

Who’s Jammed Here: The Circus, Faridkot, Half Step Down, Groove Adda, Adi Sohail Tarun, Cyanide, Fuzz Culture, Shubha Mugdal, Hashback Hashish, Indigo Children, Sundog Project, The Iyer Project, Su Real, and Smash Nasty have all shared this space.

Charges: All this at Rs. 300 an hour? We couldn’t believe it ourselves.

Where: G – 2, Basement South Extension, Part – 2, New Delhi

Located in South Delhi, this Jam Pad has a ‘dark red room’ that promises to never let your energy die out. Mainly targeting metalheads, the studio is stocked with the necessary equipment; Drum Kits, Mics, Guitar Amps, Mixers, Bass Amps, and of course, mics. Their timings may be a little inconvenient (10:30am to 8:30pm), but they are open daily!

Who’s Jammed Here: Them Clones, Euphoria, Faridkot, Astitva, Nasya, Bandish, Suryaveer Hooja (Ehsaas) and Ashish Chhabra Project (Jazba) have rocked their socks off here.

Charges: Rs. 250 an hour is a good bargain. Then even have an annual membership, if you’re looking for more benefits.

Where: D-72, Okhla Industrial Area, Phase – 1 New Delhi

Sound Station, a jamming studio owned by Music Gets Me High, a music and entertainment company has been around for a few years now. Balanced acoustics, quality sound and a professional outlook is what makes this studio such a popular spot.The rehearsal space has aided established bands, as well as upcoming bands; with about 300 different bands under their belt.

The equipment they provide is also high quality, and the pad boasts of being one of the biggest jam pads in Delhi. The studio is entirely soundproof with power backup as well, opening up at 6am, and only closing its doors at 2am. Some of the equipment they’ve got in store is a Mapex VX Series Drum Kit, Meinl Cymbals, Bass Amps, Guitar Amps, Mics, Monitors, Soundcraft EFX 8 and a DBX 2 channel EQ.

Who’s Jammed Here: This jam studio has seen the likes of Faridkot, Advaita, Parikrama, Luke Kenny, Shye Ben Tzur, Indigo Children, Them Clones, The Ska Vengers, Shafqat Amanat Ali Khan, and more.

Charges: Rs. 250 per hour seems to be the standard around here.

Where: 451- 452 4th Floor, South Extension Part II, Masjid Moth, Delhi

Rehearsing is important, but so is recording with quality equipment. It gives artists the opportunity to listen in on themselves and understand where they’re going wrong. Sound Space StarShip promotes exactly that in their studio. An added quirk is that their Rehearsal Room can be flooded in daylight if you’d prefer that, over studio lights. As for equipment, you’ve got your standards — drum set, bass amps, guitar amps, live monitors, mics, and better yet, you can even jam with headphones (provided you bring your own.) You can rent the drum kit, a Yamaha keyboard, guitars, sitars and other instruments, too.

Who’s Jammed Here: Some of the names that have graced this studio include Barefaced Liar, Punkh, Ragleela, Run it’s the Kid, Urban Early Men and The Iyer Project.

Charges: When it’s Rs. 300 per hour, you know you’re visiting again.

Where: A-29, Basement, Dayanand Colony, Lajpat Nagar-4, New Delhi

This Jam pad was one of Delhi’s first, and was established in October 2010. Over the years, they have catered to more than 1500 bands and clocked over 10,000 jam hours. The jam pad even opens up to become a stage, creating a unique Concert Venue, which can hold up to a 100 guests. Musical equipment like your standard keyboards, drums, guitars and sound systems are also available on rent.

The studio isn’t just a jam pad, it has become a place for like minded people who share a love for music, art and dance, to interact and enhance their skills. Carnival Underground aims to take your hobbies to the next level, while keeping the element of fun alive.

Who’s Jammed Here: Some of their regular patrons are popular names in the Indian Music circuit such as Astitva, Nasya, and Undying Inc. Bollywood celebs also frequent the jam pad, such as Shibani Kashyap, Harshdeep Kaur, Shafqat Amanat Ali, and more.

Charges: To be part of this intense, creative environment, Rs. 300 is a steal.
