An intimate sit-down jazz performance, soul food straight from Louisiana and endless pours of reds and whites while you sample burrata and bocconcini — hit pause on the present and time travel back to New Orleans in the 50s — without leaving Mumbai.

Too good to be true? Prepare your old-school soul for the launch of The Quarter at Royal Opera House, exactly a year after this iconic venue reopened. Complete with a live jazz bar, an al fresco restaurant, a 24x7 cafe and a cocktail bar, this four-sectioned cultural hub is set to open on October 26.

Live at The Quarter, the jazz bar that looks like it belongs to a different era, will host music performances specially curated by veterans of the industry as well as co-founders Ranjit Barot and Asha Phatak. Spanning genres, this shiny new venue will organise everything from one-night-only specials to month-long festivals featuring some of the best live acts in the country and across the globe.

Kicking things off on opening night, two all-star ensembles are set to take the stage on October 26, both featuring legendary musician and artistic director at The Quarter, Ranjit Barot. Accompanied by a Western classical music ensemble comprising of two violins, a viola, and a cello, Kolkata-based electro pop duo, Parekh and Singh will perform at the Royal Opera House on October 27, and then take over the new 100-seater venue on October 28 (hopefully, you’ve been able to snag tickets for this!) for an all-covers show.

Gig nights at The Quarter are set to become something of a ritual, we think!
