If you listen closely, music is everywhere. Though that may be a line ripped from a cheesy movie, for many musicians the streets are a source of constantly evolving inspiration. For Sanaya Adeshir a.k.a Sandunes, every city holds its own unique melody. This Saturday at Puma #RunTheStreets, she lets us all in on the secrets of building an urban archive to create a truly authentic musical experience.

To anyone who’s been keeping an eye on her career, it’s evident that Mumbai-based electronic musician Sandunes (Sanaya Ardeshir) has been waist-deep in a career surge of sorts. The artist is a rare breed even in the country’s independent circuit which basically thrives on every participant’s USPs. From opening for Bonobo, one of her biggest musical influences at the Manchester International Festival to creating an entire archive of sound samples for a project ‘Different Trains 1947’ (the performance marked 70 years since The Partition of India) by interviewing her grandmother — she’s an enviable mix of pure, raw talent and has the kind of dedication that would put most people to shame. Besides these international projects and more, Sanaya has been working on her own project — ‘Searching For Sound’, a quest to collect sounds from across the city.

This pet project is going to play a major role in her workshop this Saturday, as she introduces it with a short film, followed by a comparison on her search for sound in Mumbai as compared to Berlin. Alternative applications for ‘Found Sound’ in music making will also be discussed, along with techniques around sample banks and instrument building. Participants will be asked to take 15 minutes outdoors to collect some sounds themselves, following which there will be an informal group jam session to test out your newfound skills.

Besides Sanaya’s workshop, Puma #RunTheStreets is also hosting another workshop with Arsh Sayed - ‘To Capture A Moment In Frame’. He’ll be breaking down yesteryear processes mixed with the boundless modern day graphic making gamut of photography. Think new age tech to the analog systems to film developing!

Register now to join in on our panel discussions at Summer House Cafe on ‘Building Creative Cities’ which focuses on improving cities that are often overwhelming, dry and policy-driven by engaging emotionally with the spaces around us. ‘Learning By Doing - A New Wave Of Education In Creative Industries’ ventures into the space where more and more young artists are teaching themselves skills in newer, dynamic ways.

Join us later at night for the PUMA After Party from 9pm to 2am with Chrms, DJ MoCity, Kumail, Folic State and Arsh x Potter.

Register here to join us this Saturday, October 7 at Puma #RunTheStreets Takeover. For more details and to RSVP to the event, visit the Facebook event page.
