Considered to be a rock-climbers haven, the Sar Pass offers a breathtaking view of snow capped mountains and verdant forests. It has everything possible – gushing rivers, unique flowers and beautiful trails. As heavenly as it is however, it is considered to be one of the most difficult treks in India.
II. Miyar Valley, Himachal Pradesh
If there was ever a case of a picture speaking a thousand words, this would be it. Located on the borders of Zanskar and Ladakh, the Miyar valley offers the most ideal conditions for a rock climbing adventure. Lush forests, sparkling clean rivers and various beautiful tiny villages upon attaining some height are definitely an added bonus.
The Shey Rock in Jammu and Kashmir is a mountaineering delight. With unique and beautiful rock formations on offer, the terrains here are suitable for both amateurs and professionals alike. The Shey region is beautiful, and offers a treat to the eyes and the soul.
Famous for its many gigantic rocks, Madhugiri is located in the Tumkur town of Karnataka. The fact that it is the second largest monolith in Asia attracts climbers from all around the world. Right at the top is a fort, which is as an added attraction to the climbers.
Surrounded by lush greenery, the Paithamala is one of the best rock climbing options in the country. Rock climbing expeditions are conducted annually here, which are attended by dozens of people from all over India as well as abroad.
A renowned UNESCO heritage site, Hampi also doubles-up as the topmost rock climbing and bouldering destination in India. Often termed as the bouldering capital of India, its landscape is covered with granite boulders. October to February is considered to be ideal time to visit this beautiful heritage site.
VII. Malshej Ghat, Maharashtra
Situated amidst lush greenery, this unusual hill in Maharashtra is considered to be ideal for amateurs who wish to learn the art of rock climbing. Historic forts, temples and caves in the vicinity simply add to the exotic experience.

One of the largest bolted rock climbing routes in India, Badami is famed for its fiery red sandstone. It is considered to be brilliant for improvement of physical and mental endurance, and the ideal time to visit is between November and March. It is mandatory for anyone visiting Badami for climbing purposes to register and take permission from the local police beforehand, though.
