In an increasingly industrialised world, we often see nature as a resource for exploitation and not the integral part of our collective histories and cultures it actually is. However, nurturing our relationships with the environment is imperative not just for the benefit of the planet, but for our own health and wellbeing. ‘We Are Kal’ invites you to Ladakh from September 13-16th for a textile retreat, where you can nurture your soul through creation and connection with nature.

Working in collaboration with New Delhi-based artist, Sanya Senani, the Ladakh Artist’s Retreat welcomes beginner art lovers to the gorgeous mountainside to embrace Ladakh’s rich textile history. ‘We Are Kal’ emphasises the deep attachment that nature, community, and art share. Through this retreat, participants will be able to do the same; they will learn about the natural dyeing process and traditional crochet techniques to better connect with the land and each other.

The retreat will take place in Leh, where attendees will get to stay at The Nature Residency Hotel and take textile classes in the KAL studio. This beautiful area is located by the Indus River and amongst five major mountain ranges, creating a scenic escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. From morning prayer at Thiksey Monastery to shopping in Leh’s local market, this art retreat is more than just a chance to expand your traditional textile knowledge– rather, it’s an opportunity to cultivate your creative skillset by embracing Ladakh’s natural landscape and building community.

‘We Are Kal’ is committed to honouring the relationship between land, heritage, and the act of creation. Their textiles use only natural dyes and organic raw materials, ensuring sustainability and longevity. Authenticity and tradition are at the core of what they do, as they uphold classic methods of their craft whilst allowing room for creative interpretation. All of these qualities shine through through their products and events, making their upcoming art retreat experience for learning and personal growth.

As technological development continues, so does the pace of our lives. However, sometimes you must slow down to better understand yourself and cultivate your craft. The Ladakh Artist’s Retreat offers you the perfect opportunity to do so; whether you are a beginner or a textile connoisseur, there is undeniably a lot to gain from the workshops and cultural enrichment this retreat offers.
