For most Indians, the idea of eating while in the air brings memories of countless encounters with bland and overpriced airline food served on tiny and inconvenient table-trays along with crying infants lending their voices for the background music. FlyDining, a restaurant in Bangalore is trying to change this perspective by being the first in the country to provide a sky-dining experience.
The restaurant consists of a deck with a huge 22-seater dining table, lifted 525 feet (approx) in the air by a crane where it rotates slowly at 360 degrees for the customers to enjoy the aerial view of the silicon city, its green cover and the Nagawara lake below. The restaurant serves pre-prepared meals which include drinks and snacks during the mocktail session and grilled chicken or sautéed vegetables on herbed rice, croquettes, bruschetta along with a fruit bowl and mocktail during the dinner session.
Although the experience sounds risky, the deck has safety harnesses for the customers and the staff members to ensure their safety and emergency services remain on standby at all times in case any problems were to arise. Customers are required to be of at least 135 cms in height in order to take part in this adventurous dining experience. Entry is not allowed for pregnant women and children under the age of 13 years. The restaurant is open to making special arrangements for occasions on prior request too.
FlyDining is changing the meaning of ‘adventurous eating’. With a unique bird eye’s view of the city, this is definitely an experience worth having.
