If our moms ever said, “We’ve got burgers at home,” we’d probably expect a sad, improvised version — like the meme has conditioned us to do; something comically off-brand. But at Klay, a casual dining spot in Dubai, the desi version of a burger might have actually outdone the original.

Klay, has reinvented the burger by swapping the conventional soft roll for a crispy, multi-layered laccha paratha. And these 'paratha buns' come in a range of flavour combinations that draw from both comfort food and regional classics. Their Smash Burger Paratha Bun features a juicy beef patty, dynamite sauce, ranch, Forsana cheese, and caramelized onions. Other options include Keema, Shakshuka, Egg-Avocado, Shawarma, Butter Chicken & Cheese Paratha Buns.

These also turn parathas into desserts with the Nutella, Banana, and Pistachio Kunafa Paratha Buns, each coated in sugar & cinnamon and filled with pastry cream and more. Alongside, the beverage lineup includes traditional Karak Chai (Lipton tea, condensed & evaporated milk, saffron, cardamom), plus twists like Matcha Karak or Café Karak, and iced karak drinks with whipped cream and syrup. Their faloodas and mojitos round out the offerings with colourful, fruit‑packed indulgence.

Klay comes from the larger Emirati‑rooted restaurant Karak House, a Downtown Dubai staple since around 2014. The restaurant riffs on Emirati (machbous, harees, luqaimat) with Indian and Middle Eastern cuisine, presented in a warm, stylish space with views of the Burj Khalifa. It is known especially for its high‑quality Karak Tea served in jars, mezze‑style snacks, and breakfast menu that includes cheese honey paratha, French toast, Turkish eggs, biryanis, and tacos.

With Klay they venture into a very special street food that isn’t just a fusion of two things we love but proof of the versatility and adaptability of South Asian cuisine and perhaps even our ingenuity. Maybe the moms who said they've got *insert fast food* at home were on to something. The iconic paratha has already been well established as being one of the world's best favourite street foods, but apparently it had more to give.

Klay’s Paratha Buns burgers are a thoughtful convergence of cultural eating habits and global street‑food trends. The contrast between crisp layered pastry and juicy fillings is something we're already pretty fond of with our Kathi rolls and Frankies. But we still can't deny the genius of this bold new shape that the humble paratha has taken. When people say, "Everything is impossible until someone does it," chances are, they'r also thinking of Klay and their Paratha Buns.
