The Echoes of Earth festival is back and this time championing marine conservation. This ecologically crafted music festival is the first of its kind in India and its third edition is taking place in Bangalore on December 1 and 2, 2018. “Echoes of Earth 2018 will pay homage to the sea and all its magnificent and beautiful life forms by collaborating with artists to design stages and installation art that will bring the theme alive. While our focus areas still revolve around water, energy and waste management; we believe, just as life began in the oceans, now, more than ever, the protection of the marine environment is imperative to sustain life on earth,” reads the festival’s official website. The festival is co-produced by Bangalore based Swordfish Events and Watson’s.

With the lush green landscapes of Bangalore as the backdrop, Echoes of Earth’s main attractions are the eco-friendly elaborate stages and art installations made from recycled material. “All infrastructure was constructed adopting environmentally conscious practices, thereby preserving the land and its integrity. The pioneering spirit of the festival rests on the elements of ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’, using old, discarded, recycled media in the rarest and creative ways,” reads the festival’s website. The festival is also know to follow the ‘no trace policy’ minimising the harmful effect of recreational activities on the environment.

With a footfall of more than 20,000 last year, this unique festival unlike many others in the country, does not cater to a particular set of people but is open to all including family and let’s you bring your furry friends along to be a part of this unique multi-sensory experience as well.

Echoes of Earth focuses mainly on live music, but has a strong line-up for electronic music as well. “The curation for Echoes of Earth is cutting edge, forward thinking and at the same time not very niche keeping in mind the inclusive nature of its audience. The huge scale of the event demands the curation process to start at least six to seven months before the event. 60 to 70 percent of the acts are centred around live music with the two main stages dedicated to the same. However, we also have an electronic stage that has grown exponentially every year,” said Sohail Arora, festival curator for Echoes of Earth, and the Founder and Managing Director of Krunk.

This time around Echoes of Earth has a diverse range of artists from all over the globe. The first line-up features French multi-instrumentalist, singer, and musician FKJ, Dusky and Iglooghost from the UK, Canadian brother-sister duo Tennyson, Grouch in Dub from Australia, American record label Awesome Tapes From Africa, Anomalie, Nolah, Van Luup and June Marieezy among the international artists. The Indian artists included in the first line-up are regular favourites Dualist Inquiry, Murthovic, MALFNKTION, Azadi Records, Aditi Ramesh, Ankur & The Ghalat Family, Technomads and Likwid.
