First Listen + Interview: Mode7’s Electronica Meets Naezy’s Urdu Rap In Sabse Hatkar
There’s an elemental cliche involved when omnivorous, critical audiences like us are force-fed ‘fusion’ in our aural choices. There’s an appreciation for the idea of it; the need to localise our talents, let our ‘roots’ do the talking but only a handful ever pull it off and it’s led to a theme. A theme of get-on-the-fucking-bandwagon-for-the-soulless, or get off. Don’t test the limits too much and if you do, you’d better not be hackneyed about it. It’s a hell of a lot of pressure on artists who aren’t content with playing in the sandbox but those are the rules. Break them, bend them, beat them with a stick if you will. Luckily for us, that’s exactly what Mode7 did.
We caught up with both the artists to talk about their first release, the power of self-referential lyrics and everything in between.
