For the last week banks and ATM’s have been the stage for anarchy, desperation and in some cases even death. With thousands if not millions of Indians queuing for hours on end in an attempt to rid themselves of their now useless currency it was inevitable that people were  eventually lose patience and forget the greater good that they had been trying to respect. But this is India, home of jugaad and devotees of the shortcut, so of course we now have a solution to all those woes and naturally, it comes with an app.

Started by Satjeet Singh Bedi , the Delhi-based start-up ‘Book My Chotu’ offers users the choice to hire an errand boy or ‘chotu’ to hold their place in the seemingly endless lines so that you can go about your day as usual until your turn arrives. (Have no fear, they are all over the age of 18, no child labour here!). The service starts at Rs. 90 for an hour which means you won’t have to give away all that cash in a hurry. It should be noted, however, that your hired help will not complete the transaction for you but will contact you as they near the front of the queue and unfortunately this service is only available to residents of Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh so the rest of us will just have to look on enviously until they decide to expand.
This may seem like a move for the bone idle but when you consider the death toll demonetisation has already accumulated the idea seems less ludicrous. The many deaths of elderly and infirm citizens could have been easily prevented with this service and hopefully Delhi-ites will make use of it if they feel incapable of braving the queues. So we commend this start-up for easing peoples’ days and making this hellish chapter of Indian history a little less traumatic.
