While sitting through the latest episode of Bliss Foster’s fashion reviews and scouring through the last of Fashion Week 2022 shows, the diverse scouting of POC faces strutting down the ramp were the highlight for those of us following the coverage.
Growing up, my stash of old Vogue catalogues and posters had one thing in common —the Eurocentric idea of beauty I aspired to emulate. I grew up in a generation that found itself pushing back the irreversible impact of colonialism all the while being sucked down a rabbit hole of pop culture and ‘what’s hot, what’s not’ media consumption.
While there are flip sides to every coin, the fashion industry’s promise to inculcate values of diversity and inclusivity seems to be moving forward as we witness a new wave of brown faces hitting major fashion capitals and representing high-end fashion houses.
Here are some of our favourite faces representing India’s notion of beauty and posing as a true reflection of you and me.
I. Ashley Radjarame
With Proenza Schouler, Lanvin, Louis Vuitton, Chloe, Jason Wu, Khaite, Jil Sander shows under her belt, Ashley is slowly working her way up the modelling industry. Modelling was never in the cards for the Indian beauty who came to London to study International Business. That is until she was scouted by an agent while working vintage shopping and the rest was history!
Thick brows, sculpted jawline and a captivating aura are striking features that catapulted her onto the radar of high fashion brands like Prada and Louis Vuitton.
A strong advocate of the fight against colourism in the industry and proudly upholding her Indian roots, the model revealed in an interview that the industry proves to discriminate among Asians as it prefers light skin models with thin, feminine features. This tokenistic idea of inclusivity is one that needs to be challenged and Ashley stays dedicated to the cause.

II. Avanti Nagrath
The Delhi based model became the first Indian model to open a show for fashion biggie Versace. Donning a cinched corseted blazer and wide-leg pants, Avanti’s Versace debut was the talk of the town this season. Walking amidst the Hadid sisters, Avanti has been part of the supermodel circuit dominating four fashion capitals this year.
While her international debut was recent, the young starlet is not a newbie to the world of the runway. A familiar muse for Indian designers like Tarun Tahiliani, Sabyasachi, and Lovebirds; the model’s career graph seems promising as she stands to be a source of inspiration for her peers in the industry.

III. Pratik Shetty
Repped by International model agencies of the likes of Anima and IMG models, Pratik has been the poster boy for Indian representation on the ramp. With an impressive build, charming personality, and an active Instagram that documents the life of the dapper Indian model across the globe, he is considered a seasoned model that brands like Loewe, Lanvin, and Alexander Mcqueen bank on. Pratik walked for notable brands like Daniel Fletcher and Kaushik Velendra at this year’s London Fashion Week.

IV. Tuhir Brahmbhatt
The Louis Vuitton Paris show this year was perhaps a moment that will go down in history. With Virgil Abloh’s creative vision coming to life, celebrities and models flocked to grace the larger than life show this year. Apart from the Abloh effect, there was another striking face catching our attention at the show. Tuhir Brahmbhatt, the Indian marking his international debut at the LV show was nothing short of a magical moment.
Not only did the young model mark a stellar debut but he also got a chance to catch a quick word of advice and a backstage fist bump from the legendary creative designer himself. With Greek-God like features and a bubbly personality ready to own the ramp, Tuhir is one to watch out for!
