Coming together of varied culinary techniques from across the globe to celebrate local produce by bringing to the diners’ tables iconic plates of food is what Bangkok’s renowned food joint Restaurant Gaa pulls off much too effortlessly. This rigour to achieve excellence with every bite of food was recognised by the Michelin Guide Thailand. Executive chef Garima Arora along with her team of international chefs were awarded a Michelin star, a hallmark of fine dining quality in the culinary world.
“I’m incredibly humbled and so proud that Restaurant Gaa has been recognised by the esteemed Michelin Guide. It’s such a coveted accolade a restaurant can be granted, and I’m delighted that the dedicated efforts of my wonderful team have been recognised by this highly-regarded organisation,” said chef Arora during a press conference held to officially announce this achievement.
32-year-old Arora is the first Indian woman chef to receive this prestigious honour. Arora, who has studied at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris and worked at the prestigious Noma in Copenhagen as Chef de Partie under Rene Redzepi, launched Restaurant Gaa in 2017, with the aim of combining the extremely rich culinary heritages of India and Thailand. The restaurant thrives to bring to the forefront the beauty of Bangkok’s local produce while ensuring that their food is contemporary. This is done by introducing elements influenced by culinary techniques from across the world. The team tirelessly works towards exploring innovative ways to transform seasonal ingredients into dishes that ensure a one-of-a-kind dining experience.
It was in 2015 that Arora relocated to Bangkok to join the Gaggan restaurant group. While exploring the local jungle and tribal markets, Arora fell in love with the rich and diverse flavours that Bangkok had to offer. Over the course of her journey as a chef that led her to the Michelin Star milestone, Arora has worked with various culinary legends like Gordon Ramsay and René Redzepi.
