Gender No Bar: The Equalship Programme Offers Paid Internships Specifically To Transgenders
BloombergQuint

In 2016, the Transgender Bill stated that transgenders may not be discriminated against in practices of unemployment. However, not much of that has translated into real life as we see next to no representation of the community in workplaces. The opportunity to land a job should be based purely on the candidate’s ability and skillset, and information such as that of gender must only be a trivial matter.

Advertising agency ^ a t o m Network recognised this glaring gap and decided to tackle it an efficient manner in order to create lasting impact. In order to broaden the spectrum of opportunities, ^ a t o m Network launched the Equalship Programme that provides paid internships specifically for people who identify with the transgender community. Opportunities are available in the field of advertising across divisions like copywriting, strategy, finance, administration, business, and design.

If the intern showcases interest and growth, ^ a t o m Network will also consider absorbing them into their company for a full-time position or refer them to other similar companies.

Gender inequality affects all the genders that make up the spectrum equally. Facing rejection based on gender-preferences does not only evince an archaic mindset but is also an inhuman practice. Having faced disparities in various aspects of their lives on a daily basis, people identifying with the transgender community struggle to make their first break in the professional world. A collective shift in perspective that begins with steps such as the Equalship Programme is the way to go.
