East Indian food may seem like a wide spectrum, India’s Eastern seaboard isn’t small after all. However when we speak of ‘East Indian cuisine’ more often than not we’re referring to a small, contained community whose roots are actually the strongest in Mumbai. Now it might seem at odds with the very term to be on the opposite side of the country but in fact the East Indian community consider themselves the original occupants of Mumbai. Their culture is directly influenced by their Portuguese connections but is world’s away from their Goan cousins.

This Saturday 16th September take the opportunity to immerse yourself in this world with Culinary Craft in an East Indian Cooking masterclass. This unique venture houses a team of professional chefs who throughout the year host workshops and events in which you can hone your skills and become your own masterchef. This weekend they’ll be focussing on the highlights of the cuisine, Mutton stew, potato chops, arroz fugath (wedding rice) and lethri (a vermicelli based dessert made with jaggery).

You’ll leave with a better understanding of the subtleties of East Indian fare and the skills to replicate this feast with easily available ingredients in your own kitchen. So book your seat today to get acquainted with this diverse culture.
