“Ice-cream” - it’s the one word that conjures up happy thoughts and memories and is the universal solution to any conflict. But a ranging palate of colour is often what one would associate with this dessert, and here, in the midst of Oshiwara, Mumbai, is a store that’s selling ice-cream perfect for the 2004 goth-avatar everyone has inside of them.

Icekraft is a familiar name within dessert circles, that has now started specialising in crafting delicious waffle cones and tubs of black coloured ice-cream. The ice-cream’s rich ebony colour is attributed to a special sauce that is prepared by mixing edible charcoal. Aptly named the “triple-threat”, it is made in front of all the customers, where it is initially battered on a cold plate, spread into a thin layer and divided into crisp rolls of ice-creams. And it doesn’t just stop there; you can also customise on the flavour of the final product. One can taste the zesty tang of orange or bitter goodness of dark chocolate in one simple colour!

After a brief session of beating and rolling out the ice-cream, it’s then placed in an equally pitch black cone, along with a generous offering of whipped cream and sprinkles (on request) at the price of Rs. 235 (charcoal isn’t cheap, people). While the black ice-cream swirls have been quite the popular phenomenon in the west, Mumbai is now stepping up their dessert game and is making waves with this dark-as-your-soul ice-cream. So what better way is there to beat the summer heat with a chilly swirl of ice-cream that can now finally match your aesthetics?
