There’s five months of the year to go but as of now, singer-songwriter Nicholson is our pick for favourite new Indian indie act of 2014. - Mumbai Boss.
Around two weeks ago, this little slice of heaven, a collaboration between Nicholson and Fuzzy Logic, was on loop at the Homegrown headquarters. Easily the most exciting independent artist to emerge on home turf, Sohrab (Nicholson) hit the ground running early this year and we doubt even metaphorically blistered soles could keep him from getting to the global appreciation he deserves.
More of a ‘live act’ (he’s a seriously gifted pianist) we somehow managed to convince the waif of an artist to pander to our dance floor needs, and take over the turntables for our Flux Party tomorrow night. Not one to give in to anyone’s demands completely however, he struck a compromise. He may not be able to entirely indulge audiences in his lyrical finesse at the decks but here’s his well-crafted ode to his musical tastes. A playlist, Homegrown style, that explores his life through a track for those indefatigable moments we’re always seeking.

1. Right NOW. ALWAYS!
A friend recently introduced me to the music of Taylor Mcferrin, who’s incidently Bobby Mcferrin’s son. I’m kinda obsessive with good new music so I’ve been listening to this on repeat for the last few weeks. In fact, the whole album is absolutely spectacular.
2. Road-tripping.
If I’m on a highway, I want to listen to this. It’s one of those records that’s so perfect in it’s simplicity and the harmonies blow me away every time. I don’t think I’ll ever tire of it.
3. Headphone moments.
Rufus Wainwright in my opinion is one of the greatest songwriters of our time. His work seems to get better and better and better. I saw him in concert a couple years ago and it was astonishing how good he was. Each album is pure magic.
4. When in need of Euphoria.
I don’t know what it is about this song. It instantly turns on the happy in my brain.
5. Sunrise.
So, if you haven’t heard the North Borders album, you should. It’s one of the few albums I’ve listened to repeatedly from start to finish this year. I’ve been a fan for a while, but I thought the collaborations with vocalists on this record were especially killer.
6. Hill Music.
Bon Iver are one of my favorite bands of ‘nowish.’ I saw them live a couple years ago and they were spectacular. I associate this song with times spent outside the city; in nature.
7. Social Gathering Music.
This stuff somehow always sits right with all people. It’s my go-to if people have vastly different taste in the same room. Everyone seems to dig it.
8. Sleep Music.
This is simply one of the most beautiful pieces of music I have ever heard.
