#HGSessions || Punkflop (Steve Abraham)
Steve Abraham a.k.a Punkflop is a Mumbai based DJ best known in music circles for throwing down high-energy dance tunes and his collaborative music blog Track Drops with Vikram Rachandani (a.k.a Nika). The former’s been responsible for many of our most embarrassing dance moves; the latter exudes a genuine warmth and interest in his music selection that would be impossible to mimic. Not unlike many others in the industry, he maintains his day job in Logistics, but it’s easy to suss out that his first love has, and always will be, music. Though he often laughs himself off as under-qualified for the term DJ, we’ve learned the hard way that any party with Steve behind the decks means leaving all inhibitions (and some dignity) behind as you hit the dance-floor.
For that reason and many more, we hoped to capture his moonlighting soundscapes in an #HGSession for those occasions he’s not there to keep the after party going.
What he has to say about it: “I love to play this set live because it includes some of my favourite songs and remixes from the last few years. In fact, a number of them are taken from the French Horn Rebellion remix album that came out last year, which definitely has some fantastic dance tunes. These are all high-energy, feel good tracks, which make for a great live set , but also perfect to listen to while you’re driving, at work, by the pool, at a party…pretty much anywhere. I’ve included music from contemporary artists that are mostly Nu-Disco and Indietronica, but there are also some modern takes on classic songs from artists including Notorious B.I.G., Marvin Gaye and Robert Palmer. The set is definitely a mixed bag, because that is something I look forward to when I’m attending any show. I like to be surprised. I mean, it’s the reason I enjoy music festivals that are not committed to a single genre of music, because that can get really boring. Oh…there’s also a ton of synth in there, which can only be a good thing!
