Quest is a progressive rock song that is a collaboration between Antariksh (an Indian rock band from Delhi led by Varun Rajput) and well-known guitarist Marty Friedman. Said Antariksh on their YouTube Channel while releasing the song. “First release of 2021, Quest touches on the topic of breaking the illusions of “me and mine” that most of us live with and get attached to. The song has introspective lyrics, questioning the true cause of our existence as humans, and how our ego, lust for money, power and greed make us feel separate from the world outside, while the world we see is not reality but a projection onto our consciousness.”

Ehsaas Band ‘Baawre’

Ehsaas band’s latest 5-track EP features songs ‘Baawre’, ‘Kal ki Yaadein’, ‘Mein Haari’, ‘Ek Anjaani’ and ‘Kal ki Yaadein Encore’. With poignant and introspective lyricism set to the acoustic instrumentation, the indie band’s debut EP sets the precedent for what we can expect from them in the future. In a way, their sound is reminiscent of Local Train’s early music. The titular song of the EP, Baawre is about a man who gives up worldly possessions and starts on a journey perhaps one that will lead to self-discovery. As the wise say, the journey matters more than the destination.

Hanita Bhambri ‘A Dog Chasing Its Own Tail’

Bhambri’s music has the ability to tap into the recesses of your mind and heart and make you feel the intensity of the emotions she feels. Her songs, though touching upon melancholy, have the ability to leave one hopeful. Her latest song is based on one of her fans who confided in her about their parent’s constant fighting and how it left them feeling isolated growing up. Bhambri has once again created magic, this time on the theme of ‘breaking but not being broken’ with this single.

Rounak Maiti ‘Interrupt Me’

For singer-songwriter and music composer, Rounak Maiti, music has been a cathartic way of understanding his sense of belonging in a world that felt fragmented by his identity of belonging to two places. But Maiti is now back with another single that is testament to his evolving sound both at a personal and sonic level. His latest single, ‘Interrupt Me’ revolves around the theme of dropping one’s ego and moving forward in the journey towards self-discovery. Sonically, the single strays away from the scratchy sense of lo-fi aesthetic with tones of nostalgia that Maiti is known for and progresses towards a more experimental and danceable sound.

SHOR ‘Khoye Se’

Rohan Shetty’s electronic-pop project SHOR is back with a single ‘Khoye Se’. There is a certain breeziness and groove in Shetty’s voice that goes well with the neon and colour-blocked aesthetic of the music video. The light and easy pop instrumentation on the track will keep you coming back. This single is an earworm for sure and we can’t wait for what’s ahead from SHOR in 2021.
