India has been immortalised in some of the greatest songs ever written as a mystical, spiritual wonderland. And the main reason the rock legends of yore saw it as such was because they were all off their banana boats on weed. So how is it that even today, when we’re seen as THE weed destination of the world, is it still not legal?
The hemp plant was once referred to as the billion dollar crop with thousands of industrial applications and a widespread acceptance of Cannabis and cannabis oil as a medicinal by-product. Hemp has the potential to replace so many of the wasteful products we use in everyday life and medicinal marijuana can ease the suffering for so many people but until now nobody has had the courage to openly challenge the government ruling on the growth and sale of the plant.
The Great Legalisation Movement was started to open up a conversation about the many missed opportunities that came with outlawing marijuana and methodically prove that cannabis is more that just a recreational substance. They were involved with India’s first Medical Cannabis Conference with Rick Simpson and have since released many documentaries and studies pertaining to the subject.
They have filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) urging the government to reconsider the ruling in their winter session of parliament and to really drive the point home, they organised an India-wide march on December 17th across the cities of Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai and Thiruvananthapuram. They urge everyone who believes in a greener, more sustainable future to join the cause and openly support the bill and prove to our lawmakers that India’s citizens are ready to take a stand and will actively back The Movement.
