When our loved ones leave us, they do so unexpectedly. In the blink of an eye, reduced to dusty corners and aching goodbyes. However, they leave us with a heartbreaking responsibility, a responsibility to remember and celebrate their lives – quiet or otherwise. To remember and reminisce the things and people they loved, to celebrate the little aspects of their lives that most people out there might have missed. To celebrate the friends and legacies they left behind and the achievements that defined them through the course of their transient life. But most importantly, they leave us with the responsibility of not limiting their lives to a string of ephemeral anecdotes and fading memories, that will inevitably be forgotten.

When somebody passes away, the pain is nothing short of tragic, and remembering them is not always that simple. But there is solace to be found in the objects that the dead tend to leave behind. Whether it’s an old diary full of dentist appointments or a coffee mug with chipped edges or even their spare set of keys still hanging by the door. It’s these bits and pieces of memories, residing in some of the most mundane things like photographs, shaving kits, beaten-up suitcases, and knick-knacks that truly comprise everything left behind by the dead.

In honour of these tangible memories, these tidbits that serve as a timeless reminder of love and loss, we have put together a home of memories expressed in poetry, art, and music for the second edition of The Memory Project, powered by HDFC Life. Homegrown warmly invites you and your family members for a very special evening on September 22nd at The British Council in New Delhi. Encapsulated as an immersive artistic experience, the event will see performances by artists like Ankur Tewari, Kavya Tehran, Dhruv Visvanath, and Alif.

The idea is to create a safe space where memories of our loved ones lost can be celebrated in a collective community-style environment. Through different artistic mediums, the abstract and often difficult conversations about loss, death, grief, and longing can be explored. We encourage you to bring along memories of your own, as well as any thoughts, stories, and messages you’d like to share with the community through any medium of artistic expression – whether it’s a song, a poem, or even just a few words. So if you have a story, we urge you to fill in the google form linked below or write to us at contact@homegrown.co.in.

We look forward to having you with us.
