Just 3 Hours From Mumbai Lies A Spectacular Seasonal Waterfall

Maharashtra’s Umbrella Falls is roughly a three hour drive from Mumbai (160 kms) in Bhandardara village and is the perfect place to embrace the expansive outpouring of one of India’s most iconic waterfalls.

Between the rainy months of July and August a small opening on the prominent facade of Wilson Dam lets out a forceful gushing of water, eager to escape the confines of the large structure. This seasonal spray has earned its name due to the semicircular rock that lies below the opening of the falls. The shape of the rocks allows the water to course down in a curved, canopy-like cascade earning it the apt title, Umbrella Falls.

Visitor can choose to enjoy the view of the falls from afar, snap some photos on the footbridge below the falls, or cool off directly under refreshing rushing of the dam water. Although there are hotels in the vicinity, if visitors want to make a weekend out of the trip, we suggest a relaxed day trip. That way you can picnic under the shade of the dam during the day, and return to the city once the sun has set.
