Currently, there are no instruments in operation at the North Pole to be able to provide precise temperature measurements, despite their varying readings and predictions, there seems to be a general agreement among experts worldwide that the mercury may just have tipped above zero. “That’s absolutely terrifying and incredibly rare,” write meteorologist Eric Holthaus for Slate. The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration stated that weather models based on satellite readings "interpreted temperatures above 32°F (0°C) at the North Pole for a brief time".

This ‘meteorological marvel’ has left the temperature of the North Pole warmer compared to several parts of North America, even Vienna and Istanbul. BBC forecaster and Met Office Meteorologist, Simon King took to his twitter account stating, "Bit warm at the North Pole! Thanks to Storm Frank, the temperature is a very rare +1°C compared to the average -28°C.”
