At a time when India was sowing the seeds for an uprising of its own, the rest of the world was taking up arms against each other to fight a war we came to know of as World War II. India had no choice but to enter the war and fight it on behalf of the British. A ship was built under the name Hercules for the British Royal Navy, but the war came to an end and the construction was put on hold.

In 1957, India purchased the incomplete carrier from the United Kingdom, and in 1961 the work was completed. The INS Vikrant became the first aircraft carrier of the Indian Navy. In 1997, the ship was decommissioned and in the years to follow, was preserved as a museum-ship in Cuffe Parade, until it was shut down in 2012 due to safety concerns.
At the end of January 2014, Vikrant was sold in an online auction to a Darukhana ship-breaker, where it underwent preparations to be broken up. The carrier was scrapped and after 36 years of service ceased to be anything more than a metal structure.
However, on the eve of India’s 67th Republic Day, the Indian company Bajaj Motors released this video that gives us a glimpse of its new range of V bikes that has been made from the ‘invincible metal of the INS Vikrant’.

“We at Bajaj were determined to not allow history to fade away into oblivion. So we took INS Vikrant’s metal, melted it, and gave it a new face,” the company says in the video. These motorbikes that have been branded Bajaj V will also be given a special logo.
The first bike that will be released under this series is going to be a 150cc model, and it will be called Bajaj Valor 150 (V150). The motorcycle features a retro classic styling with a bikini fairing and a curved seat. Add to this a simple tail lamp, alloy wheels and a low set handlebar—the motorbike is a magnificent sight.

The company has set the price for the base model at Rs.60, 000. It has been estimated that the company possesses enough raw material to allow production for about two years, which suggests that they will most likely market the bike as a special collectible.
Motorcycle enthusiasts, you might want to start saving up because the new range will be available from next month.
