Bangalore To Get The Largest Vintage Car Museum In The World

India is home to many vintage cars and even more dedicated enthusiasts, but most of the country’s treasures lie in private collections and are rarely opened up to the public eye. This is about to change and car enthusiasts are about to get an exciting new destination in the form of Vintage and Classic Car Museum, in Bangalore. The Karnataka Vintage and Classic Car Club recently acquired four acres of land in Rajarajeshwari Nagar and the immense floor space will accommodate over 300 cars. The club secretary, Ravi Prakash has said that a staggering Rs. 50 crore will be put into this project and a trust has been set up to procure the funds. Prakash is well known on the vintage car circuit, both in India and abroad.

He may be a doctor by profession but his passion has always been automobiles and he has amassed an enviable collection. When asked about the Museum he proudly told The Hindu, “It is going to be the biggest museum in the world. There are some museums abroad that display 200 cars, but the one planned in Bangalore will have space for 300 cars.”

The structure has been designed by German and English architects and will be a massive undertaking for the Bangalore car club members. Between the 250 members they have around 500 vintage cars and motorcycles, a portion of which will soon make up the museum’s first exhibit. They have a very specific goal in mind for this exciting destination. “We are planning to display the best of our collections at the museum. However, the collections will be taken out of the museum if there is an event. The objective is to educate people on the machines that once ruled the Indian roads,” says Prakash.

The club is also maintaining complete autonomy, all the funding will come from the members or their corporate partners and the government will have no hand in the proceedings. The earnings from the museum will go towards maintenance, expansion and a part will also be donated to charities that aid people injured in road accidents. Construction of this massive museum will start next year and will definitely put India on the map for vintage car enthusiasts, hopefully drawing crowds from across the world to see the amazing collection India has to offer.
