India’s First Canopy Walk Explores The Beauty Of The Western Ghats

Have you ever dreamed of gliding through the treetops? Well as of this month, that dream can now be a reality. On February 18, the country’s first canopy walk is being inaugurated in the heart of the Western Ghats, located in the Kuveshi Castle Rock of Uttara Kannada. The narrow bridge among the treetops affords a birds-eye view of the lush greenery and extensive wildlife in the area.

The project was led by the Karnataka Forest Department in association with the state Tourism department to showcase the elaborate flora and fauna of the area. The walk allows ten people to cross the wooden bridge at a time and supports two more on the viewing platforms. Each walk will be headed by a nature guide to answer any queries you may have. The area is a haven for bird-watchers and the elevation offers an entirely new vantage point to spot some exotic inhabitants.

This is among one of the many recent additions to the Indian Tourism industry geared towards increasing awareness of our ample natural resources. From the Green Passports for hikers to curated Tiger trails, the government is clearly working towards drawing public attention to the sorrowful lack of interest in domestic tourism and encouraging more people to explore the many hidden wonders India has to offer.
