Exorbitant price tags, top of the line technology, incredible speed and performance, and looks that can kill – these are the things that make a supercar. Most of the world’s supercars come from American and European luxury manufacturers, such as Ferrari and Bugatti, but at the 2018 Goodwood Festival of Speed, the world’s first Indian supercar was unveiled - the Vazirani Shul.

The Vazirani Shul (pronounced ‘shool’) is a turbine-electric supercar manufactured by Mumbai-based Vazirani Automotive, an automobile design and manufacturing company founded by Chunky Vazirani. The car has been designed under the guidance of Kazunori Yamauchi, the producer of the Gran Turismo video game series, and was a collaboration between teams from the UK, Japan, US, and Italy. The car’s aerodynamic body has been designed in collaboration with the Sahara Force India Formula One Team, and it uses Michelin tyres.

As of now, the Vazirani Shul is still in the concept stage, and Vazirani Automotive states that the prototype will go into testing later this year. However, the car’s debut will be in the virtual world, as it is going to be included in the latest Gran Turismo GT Sport game as a part of the new Inspire GT category. The car is driven by four electrical motors located near the wheels, that are powered by the in-body 300kg battery pack, which in turn is charged by the car’s small petrol-fuelled jet turbine.

In the company’s words, the goal of the Vazirani Shul is “to make an electric car so sexy and engaging that we can transition even the most stubborn petrol heads to a cleaner future.” The company has also said that the principles that guided them in the car’s development were inspired by Indian culture.
