Built in a sprawling one-acre wooded property in Karnataka, this house flawlessly blends intimacy with its surroundings and undisturbed seclusion. The clients had two primary requirements – expansive open spaces with a private central courtyard and that the house faultlessly followed the principles of Vastu. Owing to the large area it occupies, the house is built on a single level. The axis of the house is a whopping 3000 sq. ft. open verandah, which seamlessly fits in with the rest of the built house. The courtyard is intended to be an ode to the elements of life. The high concentration of greenery, flowering plants and water lily pools combat the otherwise dusty and hot city environment. The verandah is versatile at best – ideal for dining, reading a book or even just meditating.
The architects at Khosla Associates, based out of Bangalore, collaborated with TERI (The Energy and Resource Institute) to further their understanding of how to insulate the house to adverse weather conditions such as the hot summer and humid monsoon and from what we can see, these two were a match made in real estate heaven.
